Aims

  • To demonstrate to students what particular methods can do in the context of archaeology, and to generate a basic critical awareness of the potential and limitations of each.

Content

  • What an archaeologist needs to know about:
  • 1. Human remains
  • 2. Environmental archaeology
  • 3. Conservation and materials
  • 4. Prospection methods
  • 5. Dating.

Learning Outcomes

Subject-specific Knowledge:
  • By the end of this module, students will have gained an introductory knowledge of the fundamentals of archaeological science.
Subject-specific Skills:
  • Basic familiarity with a wide range of biological, physical and environmental methods used in archaeology

  • Use of the Library
