Prerequisites

  • Two years' study of Chinese including one year abroad, or equivalent.

Corequisites

  • Chinese Language III (EAST2092).

Excluded Combination of Modules

  • Business Chinese II (EAST3091)

Aims

  • To introduce to the student Chinese as it is used in a business setting.
  • Also, to further the student's language skills, knowledge of international trade and knowledge about doing business in China.
  • The course module provides an opportunity for students to gain some basic knowledge and skills in conducting business in Chinese.
  • It aims at promoting language skills.

Content

  • The module contains oral and written practice on the following topics: business arrangements, price negotiation, arranging for packing and delivery, methods of payment, transport and insurance, customs and inspection, claims and compensation, negotiating sales contract and some Chinese policies for international trade.
