Aims
- This module is part of a unified study of the main disciplines of engineering for year 2 students on either the M Eng or B Eng.
- It covers Manufacture and Management: General management issues and skills for the engineer, manufacturing management, and Electromechanics: Power systems, synchronous machines, induction machines.
- To provide opportunities for students to develop and demonstrate knowledge and understanding, qualities, skills and other attributes appropriate to the subject matter covered by this module.

- Electromechanics: Power systems, synchronous machines, induction machines.
Learning Outcomes
Subject-specific Knowledge:
- At the end of the year the student should be able demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the concepts, theory and application of Electromechanics.
- To understand the factors determining business strategy and performance.
- To appreciate the nature and scope of key management issues.
Subject-specific Skills:
- Selection and application of appropriate analysis techniques.
- Preparation of technical report.

- Numerical skills.
- Time and resource management.
Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module
- The courses in Manufacture and Management, and Electromechanics are covered in lectures, and are reinforced in seminars and with problem sheets, and two case study assignments.
- Assessment of the electromechanics element is by written examination which enables each student to demonstrate an ability to analyse and solve new problems.
- Assessment of the Manufacture and Management element is through written examination and two written assignments which give students the opportunity to select, evaluate and apply appropriate data and techniques.
- a laboratory programme provides formative, hands-on experience in electromagnetism.
