Aims
- To provide an in-depth understanding of how the metalinguistic or diacritic cues that accompany propositional meaning enable hearers to recover speakers' pragmatic meanings.
- In particular, to show the relationship between pragmatic marking as studied within an 'empirical pragmatics' approach and the sequential properties of talk as studied in Conversation Analysis.
