Aims

  • To provide a level 3 Arabic module for students who have already completed Arabic III.
  • To develop the language skills and translation and/or composition provided by Arabic III.

Content

  • The module is based on the course book Standard Arabic: an advanced course, by James Dickins and Janet Watson.

Learning Outcomes

Subject-specific Knowledge:
  • Students should be able to: Translate from Arabic to English at an intermediate level on a wide range of topics.
  • Translate from English into Arabic and/or compose original material in Arabic, on a limited range of topics.

      Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module

      • Language classes provide practice in the translation techniques required and enable students to develop confidence in translation and composition techniques.
      • Regular class tests and assessment enable their progress to be carefully monitored throughout the year.
