Prerequisites

  • Russian Grammar and Composition (RUSS2181) OR Russian Grammar and Composition (with year abroad essay) (RUSS2171).

  • Not available to students following the European Studies programme.

Aims

  • To develop in the student an ability to write and speak correct Russian in expressing ideas in a broad range of topical issues.
  • To gain competence in communication in grammatically correct Russian both in writing properly organised essays and discussing topical or general issues sensibly and fluently.

Content

  • During the year abroad (year 3) the student will prepare a portfolio of work related to the experience of studying or working in Russia to be submitted by the end of October in the following Michelmas term.
  • Weekly classes in the final year are devoted to further developing competence in written Russian, and students are required to complete 3 formatively assessed assignments in the course of the year: students are also required to attend weekly classes devoted to increasing oral fluency.
