Aims

  • to give students an understanding of the principles of exercise prescription and training for health and sport respectively.

Content

  • This module will highlight develop elements associated with the organisation and running of an exercise prescription scheme with a view to maintaining participation in exercise beyond the scheme.
  • Students will investigate the literature associated with at risk groups, models of exercise adherence, exercise prescription schemes, notion of partnership between key agencies, monitoring and evaluating exercise prescription programmes, legal liabilities and accreditation, and safe and effective exercises.

  • Students should be able to provide an outline of a balanced exercise prescription scheme for various populations taking into account rationale and justification for use of certain exercises, maintenance over time and legal implications
  • design sport-specific training programmes for athletes.
