Aims

  • To give students an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to investigate a chosen topic within sport, health and exercise.

Content

  • Final year students will be expected to complete a dissertation of 12,000 words.
  • Students will have the option of either:
  • working on a topic currently investigated by academic staff
  • a recognised research study based on one aspect of the information studied on the degree programme
  • a desk top study (i.e. history, law).

Learning Outcomes

Subject-specific Knowledge:
  • students should be able to demonstrate an in depth knowledge and understanding of the subject under investigation.
Subject-specific Skills:
  • Students should be able to produce an in-depth critical analysis of a chosen topic in a sport related area
  • survey and abstract literature relevant to the problem and programme of work, assess the validity of the findings and interpret them with respect to related published work.
Key Skills:
  • plan and devise a programme of work applicable to investigating the defined problem

Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module

  • students will receive individual supervision and the module will be assessed entirely by 12000 word dissertation which will assess all learning outcomes.
