Aims

  • On completion of the module, students should have a fundamental knowledge and understanding of how children's growth and development can influence participation and skill in sport and physical activity.

Content

  • The theoretical component of the module will comprise of: lectures on the physiological, socio-cultural and psychological factors involved in children's development that influence participation and skill in sport and physical activity.
  • There is also a practical component that focuses on children's experience of sport and physical activity in primary school.

  • Students should be able to: explain key anatomical, physiological, psychological and socio-cultural factors that affect children's growth and development.
  • explain how these factors can influence a child's participation and skill in sport and physical activity.
  • discuss children's participation and skill in sport and physical activity from a multi-disciplinary perspective.
