Aims
- To provide the opportunity for students to take control of their own learning experiences.
- to provide the opportunity to plan and experience a programme of study which will meet specified objectives: to provide the opportunity to make an agreed placement, either in this country or another, a key element in meeting specified objectives.

- By the end of the module students will be able to:
- demonstrate the facility to plan a programme of study to satisfy specific academic objectives.
- demonstrate the facility to plan a work placement which will enable specific objectives to be met.
- demonstrate the facility to use data collected on a work placement to develop a clear position on an educational issue.
- demonstrate the facility to problematise in an appropriate way an educational issue and through an appropriate work placement gaining an understanding of and a way of working through the issue.
- demonstrate the ability to formulate a personal position in relation to the themes of this module.
- the analysis of complex situations concerning human learning and development in particular contexts, including their own learning;
- the use of examples of the implementation of education policies in practice;
- provision of well argued conclusions relating to significant educational issues; Students should be able to demonstrate an ability:
- to reflect on their own value systems and development;

Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module
- This module is about students taking control of their own learning, and seeking ways of linking theory and practice in exploring the understanding of an educational issue.
- The support provided will be in the form of tutorials and seminars which will support the students, both as a group and individually, in this exercise.
- The assessment will allow the student to demonstrate how a practical placement and academic study inform one another allow for the development of a clearer understanding of an educational issue.
