Prerequisites

  • Elementary Arabic 1 (MEIS1012) AND Elementary Arabic 2 (MEIS1022) OR equivalent.

Corequisites

  • Intermediate Written Arabic.

Aims

  • To develop the Arabic oral and aural language skills acquired in Year 1 and during the year abroad, and to achieve a higher level of competence in speaking and listening.

Content

  • The majority of the oral and aural components are organised around topics (also followed in 'Intermediate Written Arabic') using 'Standard Arabic: an Advanced Course' by James Dickins and Janet Watson.
  • These topics are designed to inform students about various aspects of the Arab world and have been chosen for their interest and general importance.
  • They are supplemented where appropriate by materials drawn from other sources (eg news broadcast tapes) in order to ensure that the material retains a contemporary and up-to-date flavour.
