  • Persian I (MEIS1072) OR Persian at an equivalent level.

Aims

  • To develop familiarity with more advanced aspects of Persian grammar and with various styles of written Persian, and to maintain spoken fluency.

Content

  • The module builds on the material introduced in Persian I.
  • The principle of communicative language teaching is continued in Persian II, with grammar acquisition 'emanating' from language situations.
  • At the end of the year, it is hoped that students will have acquired a large proportion of the vocabulary of educated reading and conversation.
  • Course material includes Persian high school texts, newspapers and some short stories.
  • The 'Modern Persian for Undergraduates' course book is also used.
