- Elementary Arabic 1 (MEIS1012) AND Elementary Arabic 2 (MEIS1022) OR Arabic at an equivalent level.

Aims
- The module supplements the Level 2 core Arabic Literature module, enabling a greater range of modern texts to be studied in greater depth.
- Particular attention is paid to non-Egyptian authors.
Content
- The module is structured to cover poetry in the Michaelmas term, and prose texts in the Epiphany and Easter terms.
- The main texts read and discussed are as follows: Michaelmas term: poetry selections from 'Anthology of Arabic Verse', ed.
- Badawi, and other sources.
- Epiphany and Easter terms: Muhammad Rida al-Kafi, 'Khayt Aryan', and Emile Habibi, 'al-Mutasha'il'.
