Prerequisites
- Russian Language 1B (RUSS1042), or Russian Language 1A (RUSS1161) and Russian Translation 1A (RUSS1131) or an equivalent qualification to the satisfaction of the Chairman/Chairwoman of the Board of Studies in MLAC or his/her representative.
Corequisites
- Modern Languages, Combined Honours and all Joint and 'with' programmes: Russian Grammar and Composition (RUSS2181) OR Russian Grammar and Composition (with Year Abroad Essay) (RUSS2171). Others: see Chairman/Chairwoman of the Board of Studies in MLAC or his/her representative.

Aims
- To broaden cultural horizons by developing an appreciation of the values of the writers represented in the syllabus.
- It is the Russian literature module for year 2.
Content
- This module covers the major writers of the period in question, concentrating on selected works but attempting to provide enough of the background to see them as products of the intellectual climate of their time as well as individual creators of literary merit.
Learning Outcomes
Subject-specific Knowledge:
- On completion of this module students will have developed, through an acquaintance with the authors studied, a familiarity with and competence in evaluating human experience and in articulating comments on it.
Subject-specific Skills:
- They will have acquired an ability to discriminate between writers with subtlety and attention to detail.

- In the lectures students will acquire an overall view of Russian literature in this period.
