Prerequisites
- Russian Language 1A (RUSS1161) and Russian Translation 1A (RUSS1131) OR Russian Language 1B (RUSS1042).
Corequisites
- For Year 2 Post A-level students: Russian Translation and Oral (RUSS2191) or for Year 2 Beginners: Russian Translation 2B (RUSS2201).

Aims
- To develop the students' expertise in the Russian language by extending their knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, and building their fluency in reading and writing.
- The intention is to use the language actively and instil an awareness of its potential for expression.
- To prepare them for undertaking the year abroad essay.
Content
- There will be two contact hours per week, one advanced grammar session and one session on composition/essay writing.

- Students should be able to write and read in Russian with greater fluency, and in a variety of different contexts, having acquired a sound knowledge of grammar and increased vocabulary.

- Competence in language skills will be acquired through grammatical exercises and essay-writing assignments, in which they will become familiar and put into practice the concepts studied, at the same time increasing their vocabulary.
