Prerequisites
- Level 1 Russian Language 1B (RUSS1042) or an equivalent qualification to the satisfaction of the Chairman/woman of the Board of Studies of MLAC or his/her representative.
Corequisites
- Year 2 Beginners: Russian Grammar and Composition (RUSS2181) OR Russian Grammar and Composition (with Year Abroad Essay) (RUSS2171).
Excluded Combination of Modules

Aims
- To raise students' awareness of issues relating to translation and to practise translation, by examining a range of texts in a variety of registers in Russian/English and rendering them in English/Russian in class and in formative assessments.
- To improve oral linguistic skills.
Content
- This module is made up of three strands:
- 1) Translation into English.
- 2) Translation into Russian.
- 3) Oral.

- Students will acquire skills in translating Russian into fluent English through practical sessions on translation.
- By the end of the module they should be able to demonstrate the ability to translate unseen texts from Russian into English and English into Russian, and to discuss a range of topics in Russian.

- The module is taught by means of weekly practicals which will be devoted to a range of sample texts from English into Russian and from Russian into English.
- Oral classes will provide the opportunity to broaden students' vocabulary base by building on vocabulary encountered in the translation texts.

Weekly grammar exercises.
