Aims
- To allow students to develop:
- a personal philosophy of coaching.
- a sound knowledge and understanding of the cyclical process of planning, implementing and evaluating coaching programmes.
Content
- The module is designed to explore both theoretical issues and practical considerations in coaching.
- There is a focus on the coaching of young performers, although other performer groups are addressed.
Learning Outcomes
Subject-specific Knowledge:
- Students should be able to: discuss how to plan safe and effective programmes of work to enhance performance in a variety of sports.
- explain how components of fitness can be developed within a progressive programme.
- discuss the work of key, relevant agencies.
Subject-specific Skills:
- explain techniques and tools employed in the analysis of performance and how information obtained may be used to inform planning and coaching.
- analyse a range of coaching styles and examine coach effectiveness.
