Aims

  • The aim of the module is to explore, at an advanced level, approaches to the management of change within organizations and also to critically examine the relationship between individual and organizational change.

Learning Outcomes

Subject-specific Knowledge:
  • Critically evaluate the difference between leading and managing and have a critical understanding of the role of both in succeeding with change
Subject-specific Skills:
  • Critically evaluate a range of approaches to the management of complex change programmes within an organization.
  • Appreciate the concept of the 'reflective practitioner' and take responsibility for the development of their own reflective skills.
Key Skills:
  • Consistently apply an advanced level of knowledge and wider intellectual skills in this complex and specialized area of study.
  • Be adaptable, and show originality, insight, and critical and reflective abilities which can all be brought to bear on unpredictable and problematic situations.

Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module

  • The learning outcomes will be addressed through a combination of lectures, case studies and seminars. The assessment, by assignment, is a Reflective paper gaining an initial view of priorities for learning and change. It is designed to test both students. conceptual knowledge and understanding, and their ability to apply what they have learned.
