Aims

Content

  • The course will be structured around intensive study of the following topics focussing on their impact on the Secondary school classroom:
  • The professional responsabilities of the teacher;
  • The National Curriculum and other educational directives;
  • The nature and practice of classroom management;
  • Planning for effective teaching and learning;
  • The place of language in learning, including for those pupils with English as an additional language;
  • Planning for assessment in the Secondary curriculum.

    • On completion of the module students will be able to: critically understand a range of secondary curriculum subject-based and generic educational issues and their relationship to secondary children and classrooms;
    • critically apply the ideas to classroom practice.

      Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module

      • Lectures, workshops and seminars, including presentations from the students. Normally, a lecture will introduce a particular topic, and will then be followed up in seminar groups, and in schools during regular visits.
