Aims

  • Introduction to the advanced study of English military history from the Conquest to the fourteenth century.

Content

  • The module will explore the military history of medieval England in the wider context of the structure of medieval English society. Questions about the changing nature of military obligation will be examined, as will the logistics of war - the ways in which armies were recruited and supplied. It will also be possible to study the development of military architecture in the period.
