Aims
- To increase awareness of the relevance between theory and practice, and to develop individual approaches towards more creative performance.
Content
- Historical performance practice : To investigate historically-informed performance practices with particular reference to music of 17th and 18th centuries (3 lectures).
- Editing: Study of source material in music, to introduce editing skills (2 lectures)
- Cultural theories: To introduce theories relevant to all performing and other arts in different periods (2 lectures).
- Music analysis: Overview of different applications of music analysis: to increase understanding of a musical work, with an emphasis on the understanding and use of a range of analytical techniques in the context of creative interpretation (3 lectures).
