Prerequisites
- Spanish Language 2A (SPAN2011) OR Spanish Language 2A and Year Abroad (SPAN2131) OR Spanish Language 2B (SPAN2111) OR Spanish Language 2B and Year Abroad (SPAN2121), OR an equivlent qualification to the satisfaction of the Chairman/Chairwoman of the Board of Studies in MLAC or his/her representative.
Corequisites
- Modern European Languages, Combined Honours and all Joint and 'with' programmes: Spanish Language 4 (SPAN3011). Other: see Chairman/Chairwoman of the Board of Studies in MLAC or his/her representative.

Aims
- To develop understanding of contemporary Spanish culture and skills of critical analysis.
Content
- Spanish literature from 1939 to the present and some contemporary Spanish films studied in relation to critical theory and social, political and economic change.

- By the end of the course students should be able to write clear, coherent critical essays that show a good understanding of both the set texts and the contexts within which they have been discussed.

- The course also aims to enhance and develop:
- IT skills, through the requirement that all coursework is to be word-processed,
- skills in critical analysis and academic writing
Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module
- Students will be required to prepare specific topics for individual seminar presentations as well as reading widely to prepare for group discussions. Classes will be conducted in English and Spanish, and students are encouraged to participate in both languages. Students are required to attend all class hours and are expected to prepare themselves for classes and participate actively in discussions.
