Aims

  • to develop an understanding of the development of the substantive rights under the European Convention on Human Rights by the interpretative techniques of the European Court of Human Rights;
  • to consider other provsions for the protection of human rights in Europe under the ECPT, ESC and within the EU.

Content

  • the syllabus covers the following matters, in addition to matters raised by the students in the papers that they will present in the second term:
  • the procedures of the ECHR, ECPT, ESC and EU for the protection of human rights;
  • a study of several rights under the ECHR, ESC and EU.

    • By analysis of the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights, focusing on its interpretative techniques as well as its substantive decisions.
    • By obtaining an understanding of the procedures of the principal institutions and an understanding of why they take the form they do.
