Aims

  • to ensure that students:
  • (a) understand the main issues that arise in relation to the regulation of multinational corporations;
  • (b) are able to understand, and evaluate, current attempts to regulate such corporations.

Content

  • the syllabus will cover the following:
  • evidence on, and causes of, the growth of multinational enterprise;
  • controversies about the economic and social role of multinationals;
  • the need for, and problems in achieving, the regulation of multinationals;
  • domestic regulation: examples, strengths and limitations;
  • multinational responses:
  • the role of the EU, OECD and UN;
  • strengths and limitations.

    • By acquainting students with the principal theories about the role of multinationals and the issues raised in their regulation.
    • By enabling students to acquire an understanding of the rules, principles, practices and institutions which are currently employed in the regulation of multinationals.
    • By enabling students to develop a critical evaluation of this regulatory framework.
