Content

• The notion of 'Christian education' is susceptible of many different interpretations. Some of these are reviewed in this module, with the major focus being on the 'formative' and 'critical' styles of education into Christianity, together with their theological and philosophical implications.
• The empirical dimensions of Christian religiosity, and of more general notions of faith, will also be explored, and a critical study made of the literature on faith development and cognate areas. While the practical context of faith development, formation and criticism will also be kept in view, it is the intention of this module to provide a deeper, multi-disciplinary study of the theoretical issues that arise in such contexts, rather than any simplistic set of practical aids-for-teachers-and-pastors.
