ITAL3021: ITALIAN LANGUAGE 4B

Prerequisites

• Italian Language 2B (ITAL2031) or Italian Language 2B [for students taking a year abroad] (ITAL2051).

Aims

• To teach advanced competence in the contemporary spoken and written idiom, in various registers, building on principles and practice applied in ITAL2031/ITAL2051, and to reinforce understanding of modern Italian life and culture.

Content

• Oral and written exercises designed to foster skills in translation, debate, commentary and composition in Italian.
• Speaking practice in small groups, based on the discussion of topical issues studied in the context of Italian experience.

Learning Outcomes

• By the end of the course students should have consolidated their knowledge of the Italian language and improved their translation skills into Italian.

• Student should have improved their oral communications skills in terms of fluency and appropriate linguistic register.

Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module

• This module is taught in two weekly language classes. All classes are taught in Italian. Students are required to attend all classes and are expected to prepare themselves for classes and participate actively in discussions.

Formative Assessment:

Regular written and oral homework.
