Aims

  • The aim of the module is to enable participants to identify and plan outcomes and related measures of success for a change programme and define the means by which they will be achieved.

Content

  • Introduction to Benefits Management
  • A benefits perspective on the project lifecycle
  • Developing the Benefits Plan
  • Stakeholder analysis
  • Business roles in IS/change projects

Learning Outcomes

Subject-specific Knowledge:
  • Have a critical appreciation of a benefit driven framework for the management of a change programme.
  • Have a critical appreciation of major success/failure factors for Information Systems initiatives.
Subject-specific Skills:
  • Be able to use a range of specialized practices for ensuring strategic alignment of a benefit driven change programme.
  • Be able to use a range of specialized practices for planning a benefit driven change programme.

Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module

  • The learning outcomes will be addressed through a combination of lectures, case studies and seminars. The summative assessment by Assignment, is an application of the concepts of benefits planning to a specific IS change programme. It is designed to test both students' conceptual knowledge and understanding, and their ability to apply what they have learned.
