- To further students' programming skills and understanding, and to enable them to apply skills and principles learned to a wide variety of software applications using various methods.

Learning Outcomes
- To have a fundamental understanding of specific software application areas.
- Students will have demonstrated programming skills through appropriate techniques such as the empirical tuning of programs and the manipulation of data within a software application area.

- Learning demonstrates what is required to be learned and the application of the theory to practical examples.
- Problem classes through practicals provide assessment (both formative and summative) to guide students in the correct development of their knowledge and skills.

- The end of year examinations assess the knowledge acquired and the ability to use this knowledge to solve problems.
