Prerequisites

  • B at A Level in a foreign European language.

Corequisites

  • Italian Language 1B (ITAL1021).

Excluded Combination of Modules

  • Italian Language 1A (ITAL1071).

Aims

  • To improve linguistic skills through listening and reading practice with authentic contemporary texts.

Content

  • Two contact hours per week: one for reading comprehension practice (classroom), the other for listening comprehension (language laboratory).
  • Materials supplied by the department.

Learning Outcomes

Subject-specific Knowledge:
  • By the end of this course students should have developed a high standard of understanding in both the spoken and written language.
  • It is expected also that they will develop an awareness and appreciation of the Italian culture.
Subject-specific Skills:
  • a high level of comprehension in the spoken and written language.
Key Skills:
  • The ability to read complex multivalent texts.
  • The development of general communication skills.

Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module

  • This module is taught by means of two hours weekly. Students are required to attend all lectures and seminars and are expected to prepare themselves for classes and participate actively in discussions.
