Aims

  • The aim of the module is to enable participants to apply a range of specialized practices to help define the business problem to be tackled by a change programme.
  • Develop strategies for leading change.

  • Organizational complexity - exploring the problem and developing the goals of the change programme.

  • Cultural diagnosis in an organization

  • Culture change and resistance within an organization

Learning Outcomes

Subject-specific Knowledge:
  • Have an advanced understanding of how to diagnose the current organizational culture.
  • Have an advanced understanding of what goes on under the surface of change processes and programme.
  • Have a critical awareness of how people are responding to change.
Subject-specific Skills:
  • Have a critical appreciation of specialized practices to identify the business problem and establish the goals of a complex change programme.
  • Develop appropriate strategies for leading a complex change programme.
Key Skills:
  • Consistently apply an advanced level of knowledge and wider intellectual skills in this complex and specialized area of study.
  • Be adaptable, and show originality, insight, and critical and reflective abilities which can all be brought to bear on unpredictable and problematic situations.
  • Critically evaluate and integrate theory and practice, exercising appropriate judgment, in a complex range of situations.
  • Be self directed and able to act autonomously in planning and implementing projects at professional levels, taking a high level of responsibility for themselves and others as appropriate.

Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module

  • The learning outcomes will be addressed through a combination of lectures, case studies and seminars. The summative assessment by Assignment, is a critical exploration of a specific aspect of organizational complexity and the challenges of change. It is designed to test both students' conceptual knowledge and understanding, and their ability to apply what they have learned.
