- Definitions of Supply Chain Management
- Supply chain models and supply chain mapping
- Purchasing and supply
- Supplier selection and development
- International supply chains, buyer-supplier relationships, power and trust in supply chains, purchasing and SCM Strategy
- Competencies and skill requirements
Learning Outcomes
Subject-specific Knowledge:
- By the end of the module, students should have a critical understanding of:
- the role of purchasing and SCM in competitive strategy;
- the complexity of supply chain mapping;
- the buyer-supplier relationship debate;
- the role of logistics and demand management in SCM;
- potential future trends in Purchasing and SCM.
Subject-specific Skills:
- Have the ability to apply the subject-specific knowledge listed above as appropriate to their own organisations.
Key Skills:
- Written communication; planning, organising and time management; problem solving and analysis; using initiative; computer literacy.
Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module
- The learning outcomes will be met through a combination of lectures, facilitated discussion sessions, group work and guided reading. Extensive use will be made of case studies.
- Assessment of this module is by summative assignment, designed to: test the acquisition and articulation of knowledge; test conceptual understanding and skills of application and interpretation within the business context.
