Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module

  • While abroad, teaching and learning may take a variety of forms including lectures, seminars, tutorials and workshops, and complete assignments as required by the overseas institution.
  • Students will also produce an experiential essay (3,000 words) constrasting their learning experiences in Durham and abroad, and reflecting on how their experience may contribute to the remainder of their degree and beyond.
  • Assessment (other than of the experiential essay) will be carried out by the overseas university. This will typically involve one or more essays, written examinations, oral examinations, compositions and recitals. The assessment of the experiential essay will be undertaken by an appropriate member of the Durham Music Department. These various methods of assessment will text knowledge and understanding at the appropriate levels in the context of the specific musical material.
