Aims
- To provide students with in depth knowledge of the current theoretical issues in the field of criminological psychology
- To provide practical training in a range of transferable skills relevant for professional and personal development
Content
- This module uses seminars to examine current research issues in a range of areas within the field of criminological psychology
- These issues may include topics in the field of clinical formulation, diagnosis, treatment, professional ethics and practice standards, the role of criminological psychology within the criminal justice system.
Learning Outcomes
Subject-specific Knowledge:
- To be able to undertake a psychological assessment.
- To have an experience and appreciation of counselling skills.
- To have experience and appreciation of interviewing skills and report writing.
- To have a high level understanding of professional and ethical issues and standards.
Subject-specific Skills:
- Developing an understanding of the role of clinical values and skills within current views of interventions to address criminal and anti-social behaviour.
Key Skills:
- Good written communication skills
- Developing the ability to learn independently within broad guidelines
