Aims

  • to build upon skills, knowledge to develop understanding in Practice Development I;
  • to enable students to examine and evaluate theoretical approaches to the management and delivery of services;
  • to enable students to develop the ability to research and evaluate practice and the management and delivery of services;
  • to provide an opportunity for students to develop proposals for the development of service provision;
  • to provide opportunities for engagement in activities central to the process of service development such as assessment of need, development of effective and anti-oppressive practices, monitoring an evaluation of service provision and management of human and physical resources;
  • to provide an opportunity for students to assess the relevance of their studies to the process of service development. In particular, it will enable theoretical approaches to youth and community work to be operationalised and evaluated.

  • Students will be provided with opportunities to
  • Plan, implement and evaluate appropriate community and youth work interventions, with particular reference to management;
  • Further develop their practice competencies; -Undertake an assessment and evaluation of the agency from an management perspective;
  • Examine the application of theory to practice.

Learning Outcomes

Subject-specific Knowledge:
  • By the end of the fieldwork practice the student should be able to demonstrate understanding, knowledge and skills in the following seven key areas, demonstrating competence in at all areas:
  • 1. Building relationships with young people and communities that enable them to explore and make sense of their experiences and plan and take action.
  • 2. Facilitating learning, personal and social development and educational opportunities
  • 3. Enabling young people and communities to organise and take increasing responsibility for activities, events and projects.
  • 4. Working with young people and communities in accordance with the core values of community and youth work.
  • 5. Planning, managing and developing the work.
  • 6. Supporting and developing effective and ethical practice in community and youth work.
  • 7. Analysis of the agency and its context.
