Learning Outcomes
Subject-specific Knowledge:
- Be able to demonstrate advanced levels of knowledge and understanding in areas of Business, Management & Marketing
- Be competent in researching, accessing and assimilating literatures of an advanced nature relating to departmental research interests and topics put forward by invited speakers, and be able to effectively communicate in the written assignments and individually in group presentations the importance and implication of research areas.
Subject-specific Skills:
- Be able to deploy skills specific to the Specialized Aspects they are studying
- Be able to critically analyze management problems and decisions
Key Skills:
- Skills of critical thinking, analysis and synthesis. This includes the capability to identify assumptions, evaluate statements in terms of evidence, to detect false logic or reasoning, to identify implicit values, to define terms adequately and to generalise appropriately
- Skills of effective self-management in terms of time, planning and behaviour, motivation, self-starting, individual initiative
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing, and individually within group presentations
Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module
- The lectures and presentations by invited speakers aim to provide students with an outline of key debates in the topic area for students to expand their learning, to discuss the literature that they should explore, and to give any relevant examples and case studies.
- The student preparation and reading time is partly devoted to any formative assignments set by staff and partly to the general and specific reading suggested by staff in lectures.
- The assessments provide a test of the knowledge, understanding and analytical skills acquired by students. For the written assignments students will be expected to research and explore issues relevant to management with critical depth, and will be expected to be able to communicate robustly a well-developed demonstration of the implications of research areas to the management of organisations.

Formative Assessment:
A group presentation, all students are required to present.
