Aims

  • Visual presentation is a key technique for interfacing web-based applications for human beings.The module aims to cover knowledge and skills in modern techniques for visualisation and graphical VR, leading to their application in a significant digital imaging problem.

Learning Outcomes

Subject-specific Knowledge:
  • Gain specialist knowledge of modern digital imaging standards, methods and technologies.
Subject-specific Skills:
  • Ability to individually analyse an imaging problem, synthesise and design a solution, implement and reflectively evaluate that solution.
Key Skills:
  • Communication: visual and written via practical work,
  • Application of numbers: has some mathematical content that is applied in the summative work.
  • Improving own learning and performance: summative work is designed to encourage a deep learning response and hence motivate students to improve their own learning and performance.
  • Problem solving: summative work exercises initiative and creativity as well as technical skills.

Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module

  • The module comprises two weeks of lectures, directed reading and laboratory exercises; and two weeks undertaking a major laboratory assignment. The overall workload conforms to the standard SLAT requirement of 150 hours equivalent to 15 credits.
