Aims

  • To extend and develop understanding of a wide variety of literary texts from various periods and different genres
  • To extend and develop ways of reading texts which include an analysis of form, narrative perspective, intertextuality, literary theory, and some knowledge of the context in which the text was produced
  • To extend and develop students’ ability to articulate a critical response to literature
  • To extend and develop accuracy in writing

Content

  • To extend and develop students’ ability to articulate a response to literature
  • To extend and develop students’ ability to articulate a response to literature
  • To extend and develop an understanding of English literature including poetry, the novel and drama from a variety of periods
  • To extend and develop approaches to reading and interpreting a text
  • To extend and develop engagement in discussions to develop the ability to analyse, imagine, argue, and compare/ contrast
  • Produce written work of the following genres: descriptive, analytical and creative
  • To extend and develop the application of literary theory to a text
