Aims
- To enable students to gain a broad overview of theologies from the Majority World and the perspectives and issues that they raise.
- To offer students an opportunity to study the theology of a particular Majority World context in depth.
- To develop an appreciation of the scope and concerns of World Christianity and reflect on their implications for Christianity in the student’s own context and culture.
- To engender in students a willingness to bring Majority World theology/ies into conversation with the student’s own theological development.
- To increase students’ openness to the importance of understanding theological writings from the Majority World.
Content
- This module will explore theologies from one or more Majority World context (e.g., Africa, Asia, Latin America, Palestine and Oceania) and will include:
- an introduction to the context(s) from which these theologies come
- an overview of the theologies themselves
- an exploration of how insights from other contexts can inform and challenge our particular contexts
- a study of one theologian from the Majority World, or example of Majority World theology, in greater depth.

- Offer a coherent and detailed analysis of one or more major areas of Majority World Theology, some of which is informed by current research.
- Discuss intelligently aspects of the relationship between Majority World Theology and the practice and experience of the church in the student’s own context.

- Critically analyse modes of inquiry within Christian theology in the context of discipleship, mission and ministry, showing sensitivity to the problems of religious language, experience, and the limits of knowledge.

- Identify, gather, analyse and critically evaluate textual source materials, including material from primary sources and scholarly research, and communicate their findings with clarity and fairness.
