Aims
- To evaluate the impact of geopolitics on business competitiveness

- Business competitiveness in the European and global context
- Environmental / regulatory / policy influences on firm competitiveness

Learning Outcomes
Subject-specific Knowledge:
- At the conclusion of module teaching, students will have developed the knowledge and understanding to be able to:
- analyse global business competitive challenges
- evaluate key drivers of business competitiveness and complexity in the international business context
- evaluate key barriers to and drivers of business competitiveness with respect to factor conditions and regulatory frameworks
- manage networks and relationships to shape strategic decisions
Subject-specific Skills:
- Assess firm level resources and capabilities to respond to competitive opportunities and challenges
- Apply analytical frameworks
- Operationalise incremental, technological, market and/or disruptive innovation
- evaluate potential strategic responses to enhance business competitiveness, specifically in the EU and in the UK
- Evaluate business and operational strategy in response to geopolitical decisions
- Evaluate firm-level dimensions of global competitiveness

Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module
- Module is divided into three major parts:
- the pre-module webinar
- module teaching in Brussels, including engagement with high-level decision makers, policy makers (e.g. representatives of the European Parliament, EU-Commission, intermediaries, business group representatives etc.)
- Following module teaching there will be a subsequent webinar that will provide an opportunity to reflect on learning and de-brief on the visit.
- The formative assessment consists of workshop exercises involving individual and group analyses and presentations on specific business situations/problems relevant to the learning outcomes of the module.
- The summative assessment is designed to test the acquisition and articulation of knowledge and critical understanding, and skills of application and interpretation within the business context.
- Summative assessment will consist of an individual assignment based on an organisation of the student's choice (but agreed in advance with the Module Leader) in which the various aspects of the module are applied to consider what the organisation would have to implement in the medium to long term strategic response.

Formative Assessment:
Workshop exercises involving individual and group analyses and presentations on specific business situations/problems relevant to the learning outcomes of the module. Oral and written feedback will be given on a group and/or individual basis as appropriate.
■ Students who do not attend monitored activities shown under Teaching Methods and Learning Hours, or who fail to complete the summative or formative assessment(s) specified above, may be subject to the Academic Progress procedures defined in the University's General Regulation V, and may be required to leave the University.
