Aims
- To provide students with essential knowledge and skills in quantitative analysis to pursue empirical research.
Content
- Introduction to mathematics, statistics and data fundamentals
- Probability concepts and distributions
- Sampling and the Central Limit Theorem
- Point estimation, confidence intervals, and hypothesis testing
- Linear regression analysis and applications
- Other types of regression analysis
Learning Outcomes
Subject-specific Knowledge:
- Have knowledge of both theoretical and practical elements of key principles and methods of quantitative analysis.
Subject-specific Skills:
- Ability to apply quantitative methods to data and interpret results
- Ability to conduct empirical research using knowledge acquired
- Ability to conduct quantitative analysis using appropriate software

- Planning, organising and time management skills (through meeting the multiple deadlines for formative and summative assignments of the module)
Modes of Teaching, Learning and Assessment and how these contribute to the learning outcomes of the module
- The module is delivered through a combination of lectures and seminars to facilitate the balance of theory and practice.
- Summative assessment is by means of an individual assignment. This will help students develop their understanding of the module content and to apply what they have learned in a particular context.
- Formative assessment consists of a written assignment, allowing students to demonstrate their understanding and application of relevant knowledge. Written feedback will be provided to help them prepare for the summative assignment.
