Aims
- To enable students to explore a particular missional topic in detail.
- To enable students to assess the relevance of multiple perspectives on the topic, theological and contextual.
- To equip students with skills to reflect on and develop appropriate missional responses in particular situations.
Content
- This module will explore one specific topic in mission (for example, mission in the public square, reverse mission the approach to mission in a particular denomination) and will include:
- detailed exploration of the topic in multiple perspectives, e.g. biblical, theological, historical and sociological
- critical evaluation of different approaches to the topic
- the relevance of the topic for contemporary Christian practice
Learning Outcomes
Subject-specific Knowledge:
- Describe and analyse theological, ecclesial and contextual understandings of a missional topic, evidencing systematic understanding of key concepts and drawing critically on some recent research methodologies and findings.
Subject-specific Skills:
- Extend and apply their knowledge and understanding of mission through considering a particular topic in relation to new and complex contexts, reflecting critically on the life and ministry of the church
Key Skills:
- Identify, gather, analyse and critically evaluate textual source materials, including material from primary sources and scholarly research, and communicate their findings with clarity and fairness.
- Critically evaluate ideas, arguments and assumptions, using them to construct and communicate coherent and well-reasoned arguments, showing critical awareness of their own and others’ beliefs, commitments and prejudices

- Lectures provide content, a conceptual framework and a survey of approaches within a subject area that enable students to locate their learning in a wider context, to make connections with other disciplines, and to evaluate and apply their learning to different contexts.
- The module will be assessed by Essay.
